Family Tidepool Bioblitz

  • Lovers Point Beach 631 Ocean View Blvd Pacific Grove, CA, 93950 United States (map)

Join naturalists from the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History for a guided tidepool bioblitz at Lovers Point Beach. We will be using the iNaturalist app to take pictures and identify as many species as possible with a special emphasis on sea stars. This family-friendly program is part of the statewide Solstice Sea Star Search.

Details

Registration: Not required. Open for all ages.
You should bring: Water shoes or waders: your feet will get wet! You will also want to use the iNaturalist app to upload pictures of tidepool creatures. We’ll provide a tidepool bingo for kids.
Location: Lovers Point in Pacific Grove: we will be at the beach north of the jetty. This is not the beach under the Beach House restaurant: it’s the beach whose staircase is past the wooden benches.
Tide: Low tide is at 9:42 am (-0.01 ft). The event goes from 9:30 - 10:30 am.
Caution: When tidepooling, always be gentle. Do not pick up animals, turn over rocks, or in any way disturb wildlife. Leave all shells, rocks, algae, and driftwood where you find them. Climb rocks slowly and cautiously, as they are slippery. Always keep an eye on ocean waves.
