Field Sketching Workshops

with Cady DeLay

Explore the Outdoors, Learn Art Techniques & Have Your Work Hang in an Exhibit!

We’re partnering with scientific illustrator and marine biologist Cady DeLay for a series of field sketching and nature journaling classes! Each class will take you into a different world and teach you tricks, techniques, and styles you can use to beautifully bring the world around you to the page.

Bonus: Participants ages 12-18 will also get the opportunity to show their completed work in the Museum’s upcoming exhibit at the Monterey Regional Airport! Thousands will see and enjoy your works for six months before they’re gratefully returned. Learn more about Cady and the classes below.

About Cady

In Fall of 2019 I graduated from Stockton University with a BS in marine science and minor in studio art. I left my university with the ambition of conducting research that would change the world, but the world had its own plan. When covid hit, just like everyone else, all my plans were cancelled. I used this new “free time” to consider what I really wanted to do with my life. Though I love science, specifically marine invertebrates, drawing them is much more fun than researching them. Not only that, but it can be as educational as a scientific journal, while being more accessible. While in quarantine, I was lucky to find an internship with the Smithsonian as a scientific illustrator. Simply put, that experience felt right. See more of Cady’s work here!
