PG museum reschedules sea-oriented family fun day

A sea-oriented family fun day at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It was originally planned for an earlier date.

“Research-the-Bay, A free family fun day” will explore Monterey Bay with interactive exhibits, guides from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and Camp Sea Lab, and live animals. In the spirit of a current bilingual exhibit at the museum, “Return to the Sea of Cortez,” there will also be wandering Mariachis and Mexican food from Zocalo restaurant, as well as face painting and poetry readings.

The festive event is in conjunction with the exhibit, which documents a 2004 voyage by a crew of contemporary scientists retracing the 1940 exploration John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts recorded in the classic “Log from the Sea of Cortez.” The interactive, bilingual exhibit runs through March 31. It includes more than 200 photographs taken by Nancy Burnett, a Monterey Bay Aquarium founder who served as photographer on the 2004 rediscovery.

The museum is at Central and Forest Avenues in Pacific Grove and is generally open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. Admission is free. More information: 648-5716, www.pgmuseum.org.
