Point Pinos Lighthouse Collection
Point Pinos Lighthouse Collection is comprised of more than 125 images of the Point Pinos Lighthouse, including the Lighthouse itself, its lens & machinery, outbuildings, grounds, lightkeepers & other people, maps & prints, ships, and local shipwrecks.
The images were created by a variety of photographers and cartographers, and were produced in the 19th & 20th centuries.
The images in the collection have been scanned and printed from the original glass-plate negatives. Working sets of prints are organized in loose-leaf binders and are available to the public at the Pacific Grove Public Library and the PGMNH.
Information in the annotations to the Lighthouse and Ships & Shipwrecks images on these webpages are derived from a number of sources, including information in the Museum's archives, David Shonman & Pat Hathaway's diagnostic phases of the Lighthouse, Jerry McCaffery's book, Lighthouse: Point Pinos, Pacific Grove, California (Self-published, 2001), information gathered by Lighthoouse Coordinator Nancy McDowell, and Randall A. Reinstedt's Shipwrecks and Sea Monsters of California's Central Coast (Ghost Town Publications, 1975).
