World Oceans Day: dynamics of ocean impacts
For World Oceans Day, Sustainable Pacific Grove (SPG) will examine ongoing impacts on the oceans and how they interact. Climate change and El Nino. Ocean acidification and hypoxia. Toxic algal blooms and desalination.
Many of us have heard something about all of these disturbances. What we likely don't fully appreciate, however, are the dynamic connections between them. A conversation with a panel of marine experts will guide us through this maze of moving parts.
Dr. Kristy Kroeker (UCSC), Dr. Mary Silver (UCSC, retired), Dr. Carol Reeb (Hopkins Marine Station, Stanford Univ.), and Dr. Steve Webster (San Jose State Univ., retired; a founder of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and advisor to local organizations for marine conservation). SPG meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, on Central Ave. between Grand & Forest, 7.00 to 8.30 pm.
