Treasures from the Basement is a Members-Exclusive event where the Museum provides a rare and exclusive one-evening-only showing of part of its collection.
This first Treasures from the Basement event showcases the Museum's extensive Native American basket collection. For this evening only, members get a rare glimpse of diverse artifacts such as Arctic baleen baskets, Pomo feathered baskets, and enormous Pima storage baskets.
This evening will also celebrate the Museum's Ohlone and Salinan baskets being publicly and safely exhibited again after five years of storage. Ohlone baskets are rare, with only a few dozen known to exist worldwide.
To herald this momentous occasion, Ohlone basketweaver Linda Yamane will share how she resurrected the art through intensive research and practice. Linda is a Rumsien Ohlone of the Native people of the Monterey area.
