Talk: More Than Honey Bees
Did you know that California contains 1600 different species of bee? Our state has one of the most diverse bee populations in the entire country. And only a handful of these bees are non-native, such as the honey bee.
That’s right. Honey bees aren’t native, but they seem to coexist well, sharing flowers, with native bees.
Find out more about the common bees of California from the author of a newly published, eponymous field guide. As growing evidence points to declining bee populations, learn critical information about the ties between plants and buzzing pollinators.
Our speaker is Dr. Gretchen LeBuhn, a Professor of Biology at San Francisco State University and the Director of the Great Sunflower Project, a national citizen science program designed to gather information about bee diversity and activity.
