Welcome to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History's Point Pinos Lighthouse archival images webpages. An online exhibit using some of the images in the Museum's Lighthouse collection is now available. The collection is comprised of more than 125 images of the Point Pinos Lighthouse, including the Lighthouse itself, its lens & machinery, outbuildings, grounds, lightkeepers & other people, maps & prints, ships, and local shipwrecks.
The images were created by a variety of photographers and cartographers, and were produced in the 19th & 20th centuries.
The images have been scanned from photographs in the Museum's collection. In addition to these webpages, working sets of prints are organized in loose-leaf binders and are available to the public at the reference desk at the Pacific Grove Public Library and by appointment at the Museum.

Information in the annotations to the Lighthouse and Ships & Shipwrecks images on these webpages are derived from a number of sources, including information in the Museum's archives, David Shonman & Pat Hathaway's diagnostic phases of the Lighthouse, Jerry McCaffery's book, Lighthouse: Point Pinos, Pacific Grove, California (Self-published, 2001), information gathered by Lighthoouse Coordinator Nancy McDowell, and Randall A. Reinstedt's Shipwrecks and Sea Monsters of California's Central Coast (Ghost Town Publications, 1975). High-quality reproductions of most of these images are available for purchase.
