| Many of the images in this online exhibit are the work of photographer & pioneer pharmacist, C. K. Tuttle (1859-1939). Tuttle was a native Californian, born in Benicia. | ||
| Tuttle graduated from the California College of Pharmacy in 1879, and held California druggist certificate #6. He captured the people, places, and vistas of early Pacific Grove with his camera, and dispensed these images along with his prescriptions to customers of his Lighthouse Avenue pharmacy. | ||
| He came to Pacific Grove in 1887 for the local climate's health benefits, and stayed for the rest of his long life. He was energetically involved with civic work, and served for many years on the city's board of trustees and school board. | ||
| Tuttle learned photography from C.W.J. Johnson, the official Del Monte Hotel photographer. | ||
| Tuttle's camera work spanned over four decades, and the Museum has over 700 of his images in its collection. These images were made in many formats, ranging from large glass-plate negatives to small film snapshots. Copies of the images are available online, and in binders at the Pacific Grove Public Library reference desk and at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History (by appointment with the archivist.) | ||
