Construction of Holman's Department Store, showing framing. Looking down Fountain Avenue, glimpse (though out of focus) of marine naturalist Edward F. Ricketts' first Pacific Biological Laboratory. John Steinbeck immortalized Ricketts' later Cannery Row lab as "Doc's Lab." This Pacific Grove location was the predecessor of the more-famous location. Ricketts worked here from 1923 - 1928. Concrete streetlight standard in foreground.
