Observation tube and diver, jetty, McMurdo Station.Observation tube and diver, jetty, McMurdo Station

My first dive in Antarctica was at the jetty in front of McMurdo Station. The observation tube is basically a large pipe that pokes down through the sea ice about 7.5m (25 feet) into the ocean. The windows of the observation tube are often encrusted with anchor ice, so divers are needed to clean the windows. Here, diver Stacy Kim of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories comes face to face with Guy Guthridge of the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs.
